Apple has approved and published Super Apps, a book about the history of Apples App Store and the marketing techniques developers should follow to successfully promote their apps. Super Apps was created using Apples iBooks Author app and was written by Luis A. Gutierrez, founder of the AppPicker website which was acquired in March 2012.
After watching the app market every day for the last several years, I wanted to memorialize the key events which made the App Store a phenomenal success, said Luis A. Gutierrez. Super Apps not only delves into the reasons why Apple chose native apps instead of web apps but also tells the stories of super apps like Instagram, Words With Friends and Angry Birds to illustrate important marketing strategies. The book also looks at major flops like the Color app to extract important lessons for developers.
The book is broken down into the following chapters:
1. Apps Redefined & Reborn
2. App Store
3. The First Apps
4. The First Super Apps
5. Innovative Apps
6. Crash and Burn
7. Marketing Your Super App
8. My Favorite Apps
9. The Future of Apps
Luis Gutierrez’s experiences the last few years analyzing new apps published on the App Store makes him an ideal candidate to chronicle the App Store and compare and contrast some of the earliest, best and biggest flops the store has seen, said Jesse Lakes, Former Global Product Manager – iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store Affiliate Program
